:: Robotham Puts On A Clinic To Snare Cardwell Cup Front Row Challenge

Monday, 8 February 2010
Mike

Peter Robotham took up the Challenge saturday night as he took on a top field from the rear and won for the second year in a row the 2010 Cardwell Cup front Row Challenge.

Robotham was simply sensational as he worked high than low and high again as he navigated his way through the field which had cars sometimes three and four wide as he worked his way to the front.

Carl Yenne jumped to the lead at the start of the feature and lead the field down the back straight with Brad Day breathing down his neck.

Yenne was on a charge with a hungry pack behind him as Robotham started his move passing several cars in the openinng lap.

Coming out of 4 Day seized his opportunity as he drove hard under the yellow missle of Yenne to snatch the lead and swept into the lead going into 1.

Day was off and running trying to get a break from the field from as a battle royale started behind between Yenne, Keith Astrella IAn Jones, Gavin Gay.

Matt Astrella, Wolley, and the Crawfords were having there own battle Royale as the Pink thing started to round them up.

Day was driving at his best as he opened up about a half track lead over the bunch.

Robotham closed onto the back of Astrella and Yenne slicing past the two and into second that now had the crowd anticipating a late race challenge by the pink machine on days lead.

With both cars now in open air could the Pink rocket ship catch and overcome the Day Lead? Would lap traffic become an issue?

The gap began to shrink as Robotham was hellbent on catching Day as they came upon lapped traffic.

Robotham now was on the bumper of Day as the pair raced down the back stretch and onto the bumper of Steve English. Robotham worked high as Day went low with Robotham getting the advantage taking the lead as they entered turns 3 with Day into second.

Yellow lights were on as Steve English spun in turn 3!

Confusion reigned as to the positions that Robotham and Day should be in as Robotham was out front.

With a couple of roll around laps and drivers happy the running order was Robotham, Day, Astrella and Yenne.

The green flag dropped as Robotham drove away with Day chasing hard and the Yenne Astrella love affair continuing.

As the Chequers fell it was Robotham taking a sensational win that had the crowd and crews on there feet with Day home second and Keith Astrella getting the chocolates over Yenne.

Heat racing saw a clean sweep by Robotham showing he was the man on a mission.

Heat racing was fast and furious with each Driver contesting 3 heats each.

After two round of Heats Day and Robotham were fixed on two wins each witht he Final heat seeing the two racing off for the clean Sweep with Robotham claiming the top spot.

Heat 1 saw the demise of Rookie Driver Dean Day when he was left with no room to move and slaming the turn 4 fence rolling the Green Machine.

Heat 4 also saw Wolley taking a ride on the wide side after a move for position saw the Vic 9 Car City Compact go up and over in a soft roll in turns 3 & 4.

Rob Crawford also showed that he isnt afraid to jump his Compact as he two showed the crowd on opposite ends of the race track how much air a Compact could get riding over the Pole line hump.

Chooch Griffiths put the bad luck that he has struck at every round this year behind him with an excellent run through the heats which saw him Qualify equal 8th for the feature only for the young guy to be a non starter after damage to the in out cable bracket stooped him from able to get the car into gear.

The VCSC Committee and Club members would like to thank the travelling NSW Drivers for there support of this event and look forward to seeing them again this season.

The Committee and Memebers would also like to thank the Cardwell Family for there participation and sponsorship in this event and working with the committee to grow this into one of the highlights of the Victorian Compact Speedcar Calander.
